Chile won the Copa América de la Pastelería title. With the victory of the host country, represented by Alejandro Espinoza and Javiera Villegas, concludes an intense day in which the American countries were selected for the Pastry World Cup, the prestigious international pastry competition. With the great gastronomic event, Metropolitan Santiago, the most prestigious convention and events center in the capital, opened its doors as host of the continental final of the World Pastry Cup. This Wednesday, July 13, after 5 hours of intense testing, 3 teams achieved their official qualification for the Grand Final of the Pastry World Cup, to be held on January 20 and 21, 2023 during the Sirha de Lyon: Chile, United States and Argentina. Led by Alejandro Espinoza and Javiera Villegas, the Chilean team seduced the jury with surprising creations that combined the shape of a flower and a fish surfing the waves of the Pacific Ocean, which perfectly illustrated the theme proposed by the team: “Nature in bloom”. In its first participation, the United States took second place, just ahead of Argentina. The 7 teams had to create two frozen fruit desserts, twelve ice cream lollipops, seven restaurant-style desserts, as well as two artistic pieces of 145 cm each. All this work done under the watchful eye of Gustavo Sáez, Honorary President of this edition, elected best pastry chef of 2016 by the World’s 50 Best Restaurant in Latin America and also winner of the Maya Cup in 2018, won together with the Chilean team.
