Metropolitan Santiago launches and highlights the challenges that this new convention center will face

The world-class meeting center located in the Vitacura district will be an exponent in events and services, taking care of the environment and inviting the community to be part of events at no cost. Santiago, Thursday, September 01, 2022 – With the participation of more than 600 people, the launch of the most iconic convention center in the region, Metropolitan Santiago, was held. Its main objective is to bring people together face to face through corporate and social events, fairs and congresses, and its challenges will include promoting sustainability, caring for the environment, and fostering community development. On the occasion, the executive director of GL events Chile, Francisco Sotomayor, stressed that “today, with the opening of Metropolitan Santiago, the first convention center that we open as GL events Venues, we begin to consolidate the model of our business, which is basically to provide a venue, services, organization and production of events. We take with great humility, but also with great pride this challenge of continuing to connect people, to meet face to face, which is of utmost importance for people, after two very difficult years due to covid-19”. For his part, Jaime Solar, general manager of Metropolitan Santiago, emphasized that “we have a very strong commitment to sustainability, and in order to improve people’s experience, today we are investing in state-of-the-art acoustic panels and air conditioning generated by clean energy. In this sense, we have a two-year plan in which we will have electromobility, energy saving, low water consumption, and we are working on a landscaping project with the Municipality of Vitacura. In addition, our team includes chef Sebastián Salas, who will have the challenge of reducing the carbon footprint of our dishes”. He also added that “as managers of this new convention center, we are committed to providing the best experience for people, and with our team we will make our best effort to achieve this”. On the occasion, the Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Kunze emphasized that “we are very happy for the inauguration of the Metropolitan Santiago convention center, which is very important because it has a scope and infrastructure that will allow us to receive events, congresses and important meetings, giving a boost to the economic activity of the country”. GL events GL events Chile received the concession from the Municipality of Vitacura, and since June 26, 2022 became the new administrator of the events center, which has 12 multipurpose rooms, and is located on Avenida San Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, Vitacura. The new convention center also has a park, designed for citizens to enjoy green areas, as well as the generation of cultural, sports and educational events and activities, which GL events will promote free of charge to encourage the relationship between people and the community. Annually, the venue will create one thousand jobs and will generate a direct impact in the region of US$ 23 million for the administration of the site, in terms of hotels, transportation, commerce and gastronomy. It will also reduce energy consumption by more than 200,000 kWh per year and reduce water consumption by more than 10 million liters of water.
